Grays students see winning idea come to life

The victorious team from last year’s Next Top Boss competition saw their winning idea come to life at a special launch ceremony held at Grays Station last week.
Students from Grays Convent High School, working together under the banner Team Sanitary, won the competition with an innovative idea to make sure complimentary period care products were available in toilets across at c2c’s rail network.

It's no secret that there is a need for more foster carers and while many people may not have considered being a foster parent, those who do can help change a child’s life.
Foster carers offer a loving home to local children and young people while their parents are unable to look after them. It can be an enriching journey as you create an environment for children to flourish in, with the hope that where possible they can be reunited with their families.

Cllr Andrew Jefferies resigns as Leader of Thurrock Council

Cllr Andrew Jefferies, Leader of Thurrock Council’s Conservative group, has resigned as Leader of the Council. The resignation will take effect from 22 May 2024.
Cllr Jefferies said: "It has been an honour to lead Thurrock Council over the last 12 months and I and colleagues have worked hard to help the council on its journey to recovery. We have had to make some difficult decisions, but we have always strived to put the people of the borough first.

Fun Palace at the libraries

Join the fun and learn a skill this Saturday at Thurrock library Fun Palaces.
Fun Palace events are taking place on Saturday 11 May at:
Chadwell library from 10:30am to 12:30pm
Grays Library from 9:30am to 12:30pm
The fun palace is a free community event where you can pick up new skills such as pebble painting, glass painting, badge making, chess, crochet, musical instruments, Zumba and much more. Last year's Fun Palace was bustling with vibrancy as residents shared their skills in Mandarin, music, and gymnastics.

The results of Thurrock Council's elections have been announced.
There were elections in 17 of the borough’s 20 wards. Following the count, these are the results:
27 Labour – held 4, gained 8, lost 0
13 Conservative – held 1, gained 0, lost 10
9 Independent – held 2, gained 2, lost 0

Nearly all primary pupils to attend one of their top choice schools

The vast majority of children across Thurrock will start their school journey in September 2024 at one of their parent or guardians top 3 primary school choices.
From 2,350 applications, over 97% of children will have been offered one their top 3 places. 89% of applicants this year have been offered their first choice of primary school.

Candidates announced for local elections 2024

Local election nominations have officially closed and the names of all candidates standing for election in Thurrock on Thursday 2 May have been released.

In this year's elections, only a third of councillors in the borough stand, which means some 2-councillor wards will not be contested this time.
