Consultation launch for Broxburn Drive development plans

20 July 2022

Proposals to build new affordable council homes with wider landscaping improvements and natural play running through and around the existing environment in South Ockendon are being explored in a consultation launched today (Wednesday 20 July).

Thurrock Council is seeking your views on proposals for Broxburn Drive as it continues to help meet the affordable housing needs of people in the borough. The new proposals include building 33 new apartments ranging from 1-bedroom to 2-bedroom properties within 6 new buildings.

These have been designed to be in keeping with the character of the area and will be built in place of some of the existing garages and car parking areas with new spaces re-provided.

Resident feedback from early-stage proposals shared last September has informed the updated, more detailed, plans, which focus on a key priority to delivering wider improvements to the existing environment at Broxburn Drive.

Cllr Luke Spillman, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "Your feedback is important to us, and your views last September have helped shape our latest plans. Our updated proposals now include 33 new council homes within 6 buildings ranging from 1 to 4 storeys, as well as more natural areas for children to play in, new footpaths and more seating, a wildlife-friendly area and a more open and greener feel to Broxburn Drive.

"There will also be an opportunity to have your say at an in-person drop-in session. I encourage neighbouring residents to come along, view our plans, talk to members of our project team and share your views.

"Everyone should have access to a good quality home. We are committed to exploring new and innovative ways to unlock housing delivery and build high-quality homes for our residents."

The Broxburn Drive consultation will run from Wednesday 20 July to Monday 12 September. A drop-in session will be held on Thursday 28 July from 3pm to 7pm in the consultation gazebo at the front of Broxburn Drive.
