Thurrock celebrates the incredible dedication of its foster carers

6 March 2025

Foster carers from across Thurrock came together for a special celebration to recognise the role they play in supporting some of the borough's most vulnerable children.

Carers from Thurrock Council were invited down to Ye Olde Plough House in Bulphan on Friday 28 February for the council's annual Foster Carer Celebration Event and Award ceremony.

Awards were given to celebrate the years of service from the dedicated carers ranging from five to 25 years. There were also 'Unsung Hero Awards', to recognise carers who have shown unwavering commitment to the children and young people they care for.

Cllr Kairen Raper, Mayor of Thurrock, was in attendance to present Foster Carers with their awards.

Cllr Raper said: "I was thrilled to present our remarkable foster carers with their awards and recognise the efforts they make to make sure that the young people in our care have a loving home and proper support while they're growing up."

Cllr Vikki Hartstean, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, was also in attendance and said: "We are proud to be supported by an amazing group of foster carers and we are truly grateful for the work they continue to do to provide our children in care with a safe, loving environment.

"Thank you to all of our foster carers across Thurrock, every one of you deserves to be celebrated. Your work is making a difference, and we are so grateful for everything you do."

Thurrock needs more foster carers. More information on becoming a foster carer in Thurrock can be found on Thurrock Council's fostering page.
