Tree-mendous Christmas event in Grays

10 December 2024

Grays Christmas Tree came to life on Monday 9 December, following a special tree lighting ceremony which took place in the High Street.

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Sue Shinnick, officially switched on the lights following a Christmas event that included Christmas pop hits, carols and songs from local school choirs, a procession of princesses, and even a special appearance from Father and Mrs Christmas.

Cllr Shinnick, who was joined on stage by Olivia Thomas for the switch on, said: “It is fantastic to see this wonderful Christmas tree lit up bringing festive cheer to the high street.

“I would especially like to thank DP World who donated this wonderful tree and Impulse Leisure who sponsored the event.

“I hope everyone enjoys the tree and has a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”

Ernst Schulze, Chief Executive Officer for Ports and Terminals at DP World in the UK, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in the festive season this year with the donation of the Grays High Street Christmas Tree.

“DP World has a firm commitment to support our workers, their families and all residents across Thurrock and I’m sure everyone thoroughly enjoyed the lights ceremony and the fun festive activities.”

Karl Hayes, Managing Director of Impulse Leisure, said: “We were thrilled to be a part of this year’s Christmas Tree light switch-on event. As a proud sponsor, we believe in the power of community and the joy that these festive lights bring to everyone. It’s an honour to support such a cherished tradition that brings people together and illuminates the holiday spirit.”
