On-street car parking

On-street pay-and-display car parking is currently only available in Grays.

Grays town centre is a controlled parking zone that has both on-street pay-and-display parking and off-street car parks. All on-street pay-and-display parking is short stay, with the exception of Thames Road and the access road to the yacht club near Grays Beach.

On-street car parking charges

Charges for quick stop, maximum 1 hour, are:

Current New charges from 1 April 2025
£1.20 – for up to 30 minutes £1.30 – for up to 30 minutes
£1.50 – for up to 45 minutes £1.60 – for up to 45 minutes
£2.10 – for up to 1 hour £2.20 – for up to 1 hour

Charges for short stay, maximum 4 hours, are:

£2.10 – for 1 hour to 2 hours £2.20 – for 1 hour to 2 hours 
£3.20 – for 2 hours to 4 hours £3.40 – for 2 hours to 4 hours 

Charges for long stay at Thames Road and the access road to the yacht club near Grays Beach are:

£1.80 – for up to 2 hours £1.90 – for up to 2 hours 
£5.00 – for up to 6 hours  £5.30 - for up to 6 hours 
£7.00 - over 6 hours  £7.30 - over 6 hours 

All pay-and-display parking machines only accept payment by debit card or credit card – following a series of break-ins, the machines no longer accept or contain cash.

Charges and instructions are displayed with all pay-and-display machines. A phone number will be displayed if there's a problem with the machine.

Parking permits

You need a parking permit for on-street parking in controlled parking zones and parking permit areas where pay-and-display is not provided.
