Housing benefit appeals

After asking us to reconsider our decision, you can request an appeal to an independent tribunal if you still disagree.

To check who can appeal, go to if your think a decision is wrong.

How to appeal

From the date on our decision letter, you have up to 1 month to ask us to send your appeal to the independent First Tier Tribunal.

You should include details of the decision and the reasons why you disagree.

Send your request to us below.

We will prepare appeals papers and send them to the First Tier Tribunal. We will also send a copy to you. If you've told us someone is helping you, you can ask us to send a copy of the papers to them as well.

If your appeal is late

You can ask to extend the limit for a revision or appeal, up to a maximum of 13 months from the date of our decision. You will need to explain in writing why you did not apply earlier, telling us of any special circumstances that prevented you from responding within the time limit.

We will send your appeal to the First Tier Tribunal. They will tell you their decision on whether your case should be heard.
