Parliamentary constituency boundaries for UK general elections changed from 2023.

Changes were made because:

• local population sizes have changed since boundaries were last agreed
• the government wanted constituencies to have roughly the same number of electors

The Boundary Commissions for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each published their final recommendations in June 2023 following 3 rounds of public consultation.

How the changes affected Thurrock

The borough of Thurrock is split between 2 parliamentary constituencies:

• Thurrock constituency – entirely within the borough of Thurrock
• South Basildon and East Thurrock constituency – part in Thurrock, part in Basildon

The Boundary Commission for England recommended that for UK general elections, the Chadwell St Mary ward should become part of South Basildon and East Thurrock constituency instead of Thurrock constituency.

For all other purposes, the Chadwell St Mary ward remains part of Thurrock and takes part in Thurrock Council elections. No other Thurrock wards were affected by Boundary Commission for England recommendations.

The new constituencies were used for the first time in the general election of July 2024.
